China 2007 Part 2

Old shops in a very charming Hutong-quarter in Beijing.

I loved this wallpainting of koi fish.

Having dinner in a Tibetan restaurant. Great experience! The food was truly exotic and very spicy!!

And then suddenly those Tibetans began to sing and dance..

with an enthousiasm I have selden seen before!!

Portrait of the famous dragon in the entrance of the Summer Palace.

Part of the Palace who could use some restauration works..

The impressive opera-theatre building.

..and stairs... many stairs..

Even the ornaments are Chinese dragons!

I was sitting there, enjoying the place when suddenly...

...these little friends threw my attention. Chinese stripy squirls! (chipmunks)

This is not a tree, this is a bizarre stone..

A labyrinth of doors, gates and fences...

Another fantastic doorway.

Fluffy and lazy Chinese cats, sleeping on a palace roof.

A pretty pagoda, somewhere hidden in the enormous parc..The little bells where making cute sounds in the wind!

If you look over the wall, you can see the skyscrapers of Beijing.

Inside of this temple complex, there is a pavilion made out of pure bronze.. (it's the dark one if you look closely.)

Posing for a vintage China series.

View at the mega pagoda.

Cute baby dragonlion.

This is a pagoda built in the form of a boat..it is made out of marble, so it will actually never float..but it looks fancy!

K. in the entrance of a great sushi restaurant!

Pretty advertisement photo you saw all around in Beijing.

View from the airplane to the South of China. Those are paddy (rice) fields.

Transport in China...is just like you've probably always imagined...

Creepy cakes...

More horror cakes in the form of dragons...

And then hundreds and hundreds of pupils came running our direction. Amazing, all in the same uniform!

Pretty peacocks all over in South China.

A fake waterfall...we noticed it was not real, when we passed it for the 2nd time after 16.00H.
(there was no waterfall anymore, only rocks!)

Sacred Banian tree.

Another fake waterfall.

Poor monkey in ugly clothes.

A rock called the "Camel".. I wonder why?

S. drinking Chinese Ribena!!

Lovely bonsai-garden in the Seven Stars Park in Guilin.

I wanted to visit the zoo in Guilin because of its Panda...
Unfortunately when we arrived, he was sleeping, and his butt was the only thing we could see...

But lucky we are, just before we wanted to leave the zoo, we took another look at the panda....and he just got some food!!

Jummy bamboo!! He is so cute, you cannot believe it!

On our way back through the city, there was this lonley man reading a book in an empty underground way...strange!

And even more bizarre, the waterfall hotel in Guilin. They say it is the largest artificial waterfall in the world. For me it makes no sense though...

Apples and dragonfruits on the local market.

Dont know why, but I like this plastic bucket stand.. Maybe because it was the only thing bringing colour in this grey city view.

Buying nuts on the market..not easy dealing..

yum.... :-(

Seaweed.. they cook it and eat it like we eat salad.. it doesnt look trustworthy to me though..

The horror of all horror-cakes!! Really this one beats them all. Get this on your birthday!! ;-))

I didn't feel well on this market, especially not where they sold the living animals..
At home in Belgium I keep this kind of fluffy chicken as a pet, and here they eat them...

And they are just rude with the animals.. it is only food for them.

A saying in Guilin goes as following:" We eat everything that has 4 legs, except tables."
And sad enough that is the truth. We've seen them eating lizards, geckos, turtles, rats, and other things you dont want to know..
I am a bit released that I didnt see cat and dog on the menu cards, but I am sure there are still Chinese people who do eat them...
